Book Club Update

Well Sir, here's how it went...

We reviewed The Life of Pi, a book I was absolutely enchanted by. Here were some of the comments from other club members, which ties in nicely to my "Why do I join book clubs!?" theme.

Of course I gave my opinion and then nodded politely while everyone else gave their totally wrong opinions on the book. But here's what I was thinking...

1. "I hated it -- it was too pretentious. I felt like the author had saved up every clever and deep thought he ever had and them dumped them all into this book."

Suburby says: (please read that like "Survey says...", from the Family Feud! Thank you!) WRONG!

2. "I am not religious at all, so I could not see anything at all religious about this book"

My verdict: WRONG AGAIN!

3. "I prefer to read "lighter" books."

Inside my head: Quelle surprise!

There was then some general discussion about how badly zoos suck and bad 80s fashions. Oh, and curling. All of which was riveting.

If anyone has read The Life of Pi, please weigh in with your thoughts on the book.

Pi is one of my top ten favorites (near the top). Sounds like your fellow book clubbers thought it was a book about a tiger in a boat...

You need to join a better book group.

It's been a while since I read that book, but I loved it ... and it generated a lot of conversation among friends, co-workers, and family members who also read it. And, uh, those conversations were not about 80s fashion. The humanity of zoos question, maybe.

I've just been checking the links on my blog to make sure they're still worth the time to visit. You pass!

I've not read the book... and likely won't now, lol.

I haven't read it yet. But I am a recovering book club member and taking it one day at a time. I've never been inclined to slap someone until I joined one. Thank goodness I'm now free.

I'm a dork--I didn't realize that when I changed my comment setup I needed to go back and "moderate" the comments. I am sorry.

Alison,

Yes, exactly. I think that's what they thought the book was about. And 80s fashion!

Gienna,

I do need to join a better book club. Our next one is some fancified harlequin romance that I am currently reading and feeling miffed page by page. One of these "I hate him! he's awful..oh look...he did something nice...oh now I am in love with him!" stupid, stupid books. Pi on the other hand is a great book.

Thank you for the passing grade!

Kim,

gah, please don't let anything I have said deny you the pleasure of a fantastic, thought-provoking read. The Life of Pi is well worth it.

Julie,

You are hilarious! Recovery is a journey hey...one day a time, baby. I can recommend the Life of Pi ... as well as being very thought-provoking, it's also beautifully written.

Thank you all so much for your comments!
