Yes, I Watched the Academy Awards

and that is three hours of my life I will never get back.

A couple of things I learned:

Sean Penn not only has no sense of humour, he is also a world leader is the ancient art of Buzzkill. I am pretty sure he stole that title from my elementary school librarian who had a one-two-three punch that would instantly and simultaeously shut you up-make you feel guilty-bring down the room. KAPOW! Sean Penn, you make Mrs. Olmsteader proud.

Seeing the "lesser" awards being handed out made me realize that somewhere in the world people are still doing that cruel thing to fat kids in gym class, where they have to stand up in a line and wait to be chosen, only to discover they never will be. But now they do that in front of a billion people!

Beyonce is the now only singer left in the whole world, oh except for that other singer, (!?!) Antonio Banderas.

Hillary Swank is married to Chad Lowe!

I hear they're currently working on re-mastering all popular music from 1970-1985 to Beyonce versions. The re-mastering of all pop songs from 1970 back to the birth of recording will commence in the next phase followed by an update to the current collection in the third phase.

What is with Chad Lowe's insane need to get into every Hillary Swank shot. She's one two Oscars, YOU.....NONE! Your wildly more popular and moderately more talented brother hasn't won an Oscar, what makes you think you're worthy of a two shot even?

Really, what was with Beyonce singing nearly every song? I think Beyonce has a great voice. But there are other talented artists out there as well.

Then again, there are an awful lot of people I wouldn't want to hear doing nominated songs -- they could have picked Ashlee Simpson.

Your right Sean Penn takes himself way too seriously

We don't get full live coverage, just a condensed version on morning TV with all the best dresses and not so best dresses...
ooo as well as all the winners

yup, that chad lowe thing was news to me, too.

a few things i noticed from the E!after-show coverage. 1) everybody loves oprah (except my husband), 2) everybody loves cate blanchett's dress (except my husband), and 3) aidan brody must've been hopped up on something ... poo, poo.

Add me to the list of folks who didn't know about the Swank/Lowe union. I remember her when she was on Beverly Hills 90210 ... she'll probably deny it, though.

j.tonic,

I wouldn't be surpised if they did. It's like how people say soon we'll all be working for The One Company, and guess who'll be singing the company theme song.

Hi Jenni,

I agree she has a lovely voice, but man. Maybe next year it will be Beyonce doing a medley of all the nominated songs.

Blackbird,

Well, you have a point there! But Ashlee Simpson is so punk rock!

Aliceinwonderland,

Amen to you! I was really annoyed by him. Chris Rock was doing comedy...we knew that right up front. We're prepared for it, we understand the context, we sure don't need some goddam Academy Awards hall monitor telling us how things really are.

Fizzy,

Count your blessings! (wink)

FunkyJ,

I missed Adam Brody! What did he do?!

Julie,

She was on 90210!? I didn't realize she had been around that long. (I didn't see Million Dollar Baby, but man she was unbelievable in Boys Don't Cry)

Hey thanks so much everyone for the comments. You guys rAwK hArD!

I missed the Oscars this year but the Sean Penn incident is being buzzed about everywhere.... will have to look that up.

I believe there were once two other girls that sang with Beyonce, did she have them bumped off?

yeah, i'm a dolt ... i meant adrien brody ...

He was a dolt, too. On the way to some after party, he was stopped by an E! reporter. He was just glazed, shirt 1/2 buttoned with a rhinestone skull & crossbones necklace.

http://www.variety.com/index.asp?layout=awardcentral2005&content=jump&nav=vpage&jump=slideshow&pic=12&articleid=VR1117918699

The reporter commented on the necklace & asked the standard "whatdya think?" questions. He just mumbled, saying something about how he does his own thing and how he just hung out in his motel room all night.

Hey, fine, party it up ... but, at least make some sense when you're on live TV. It was like he was on the end of a good high.

I guess I expect a lot out of celebrities.
